Totura Reed Mat Maker
woman weaving mat Basketmaking: There is a wealth of basketry in Ecuador, from the intricate nested palm fibre baskets to the large totura reed utility baskets. We visit basket markets and basketmakers, as well as see baskets used in everyday life. There are usually a couple workshops for us to try our hand at some of the Ecuadorian materials!

A tour participant enjoys a magnificent vista in the highlands of Ecuador.
Ecuador is a beautiful and rugged country. This trip is for the adventurous. Much of the time is spent at high altitudes - over 8,000 ft. Roads can be rough and often follow the edges of the mountains! Temperatures can be quite chilly, and although we travel during the beginning of the dry season, there will probably be rain! The pace of life is slower in South America, and Ecuador is no different. Leave your timetables behind, come expecting the unexpected, bring an adventurous spirit, and join us for a wonderful experience in the Andes of Ecuador!
