Bamboo

Bamboo is used extensively throughout Asia for weaving baskets. It is very sturdy, but does not have quite the flexible properties of rattan.

Usually, needs to be packaged separately from other items ordered, so an additional shipping charge will apply.

Split & Sliced Bamboo
Packaged in approx. 1 lb. bundles. Pieces range from 24" to 30" long. This is all made by hand, so the pieces are cut evenly but, all are not exactly the same width within the bundle.

Fiber Rush (Paper Rush)

Twisted round paper cord. It is often used in weaving chair seats. Many old pieces of wicker furniture are made of fiber rush. A bundle will usually cover an average chair seat of approx. 12" x 12". Also used in coiling.

Bales vary, anywhere between 20 and 30 lbs., so the actual weight is not known until each bale is weighed.

White Fiber Rush (White Paper Rush)

Twisted round paper cord in white. Can be dyed to match your project as long as material is not allowed to soak for a long length of time.

Baby Fiber Rush

Tiny fiber (paper) rush is often used in smaller wicker furniture. It is also popular as a core in coiling baskets. Kraft brown (brown paper bag) color in approx. As the #2 & #3 are nearly the same size, we are only carrying the #3 from now on.

**Fiber Splint (Paper Splint) - Flat**

Fiber splint is a brownish colored flat paper splint sometimes used to weave splint seats in chairs. It can also be used in making splint baskets. One bundle is enough to do one average size seat 12" x 12".

Natural Rush

Leaves (probably seagrass) hand twisted into a rope. A coil will do one small chair seat approx. 12" x 12". Looks similar to natural rush made of twisted cattails or bulrush.

Chip Wood Strips

Some of the baskets coming out of China are being made of this wood. It is from a tree that grows quickly and can be harvested and reforested easily. Soak the strips for a minute or so, and the wood becomes very flexible - bends and curls very well. But..., it is a bit brittle when dry. Looks like pine. We are trying this out as a new product. Let us know what you think! Should we order more?
