Strand Cane

Strand Cane is made from the shiny inner bark of the rattan plant. We sell the prime select quality strand cane (best available) which usually has lengths of 8' and up. Each hank is approximately 1000 ft. and will do 4 average seats of approximately 12" x 12" size. The size cane needed for a seat is determined by measuring the size of the holes and the distance between the holes from center to center.

As with all dyed material - wipe with paper towel before weaving into basket to prevent color bleeding.

**Binder Cane**

We carry superior quality binder cane. It is a wider, thicker version of chair cane used to border the hand-woven seat. (4mm is most commonly used.) Binder is also used as a wrap in rattan and wicker furniture and is very popular in basketry as lashing.

**Overstock on Slab Rattan!**

We have too much inventory of Slab Rattan in stock. This is the bigger size Binder Cane commonly used for "Porch" Rockers. It is a bit over 1/4" wide and a little more "rustic" than the usual Binder Cane. Price is lowered until we have the inventory under control!

**Cane Webbing:**

Cane webbing is "sheet" chair cane in which the warp and weft has been prewoven on a loom. The diagonals have been woven in by hand. It is used on furniture that has a groove or channel around the outside edge of the seat opening. To determine the size needed -- measure from groove to groove (front to back and side to side) and add 2" to each measurement.

**Spline**

Spline is wedge shaped reed used to hold cane webbing in the channel of the chair seat. It should "just slip" into the cleaned groove. Spline can be carved and used for handles or ears in basket weaving.

**Sold in natural random lengths of approximately 6-12 feet.**
